"A foodborne illness is the number one worry for restaurant owners …. Most think this is covered under their general liability policy."
Public Health Authority Announcement
What we pay for:
Loss of gross revenue
Lost royalty income
Disease outbreak clean-up costs
1) Norovirus spreads throughout your restaurant and customers fall ill. Your restaurant needs to be closed for 3 days to undergo a deep clean. You have to hire in additional workers and everyone works overtime to re-open the restaurant. People lose faith in your restaurant and so you need to offer 2 for 1 promotional offer for the next 2 weeks in order to rebuild your customer base. Our policy will pay out for all of these costs incurred.
2) A batch of onions is supplied to all 3 of your restaurants contaminated with listeria. 50 customers get sick and publicize it on social media. You order a chemical analysis and the results come back positive. Any remaining onions on the premises need to be removed and destroyed. As a result, people stop coming to your restaurants and you suffer a downturn in sales. Our policy will pay out for the loss of gross revenue and extra expenses.
3) A public health authority orders the temporary shutdown of your restaurant due to rat droppings found in the store room. Our policy will pay out for the pest control services, any BI / expenses incurred & rehab costs.
