Edgewater Adopts New Wage and Hour Guidelines
February 2009. Edgewater has published new supplemental applications for Wage and Hour Defense Only Coverage. This coverage has become popular in California and some other states and is available for most classes of business. The new applications simplify the process. For most classes the supplemental application is a simple claim and incident query. For more difficult classes such as restaurants or retail establishments the number of questions has been reduced. We have also included a document that will help you our broker understand the purpose behind the questions so that you may assist your client. The addition of the coverage to the EPLI policy requires a minimum additional premium of $1,000 and is usually priced at a 10% surcharge of the base EPLI premium. Form more information click here W&H

March 2009 Discrimination claims filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission jumped 15 percent in fiscal 2008 to 95,402 — the highest level since the agency opened in 1965, said spokesman David Grinberg. That is up from 82,792 claims filed the year before by workers who believe they were discriminated against because of age, race, religion, gender or other reasons. Insurance industry data indicate that wrongful termination is alleged in almost 80% of EPLI claims. The frequency of claims positively correlates with the unemployment rate.
